FAQ
ABOUT PATCHWRK
The ideas, construction, and approach behind the work.
What is Patchwrk?
Patchwrk is a study in transformation. Each piece is developed through considered construction, material, and an individual point of view, with an emphasis on craftsmanship, character, and longevity.
What defines Patchwrk’s value?
Patchwrk sits at the intersection of craft and culture. Time, material, construction, and attention to detail shape each piece. The work is created with intention rather than built around mass production or short-lived trends.
Are all Patchwrk pieces one-of-one?
Many Patchwrk pieces are one-of-one, while select designs, materials, and concepts may return in new variations. When a piece is one-of-one, it will be identified as such.
Who designs and makes Patchwrk?
Patchwrk is designed and made by Knar'e, with each garment developed through the hands-on approach that defines the brand.
THE PATCHWRK STUDIO
One-to-one commissions, tailoring, repairs, and restoration.
What is the Patchwrk Studio?
The Patchwrk Studio is the service side of Patchwrk for one-to-one work through Private Commissions, Tailoring & Fit, and Repairs & Restorations.
What is the difference between the Shop and the Studio?
The Shop offers completed Patchwrk pieces currently available to purchase.
The Studio handles individual service work, including commissions, tailoring, repairs, restorations, and select reconstruction.
How do I start a Studio request?
Visit the Studio page and complete the inquiry form with the details of what you are looking for. Depending on the service, you can include photos, references, measurements, deadlines, and other relevant information.
Each request is reviewed individually before work is accepted.
What are Private Commissions?
Private Commissions cover original and reconstructed garments developed around your vision, fit, and intended use.
Work may include custom garment design and construction, garment reconstruction and customization, pattern development and modification, material selection and sourcing, fittings, and select multi-piece or production projects.
Do you accept multi-piece or production projects?
Yes. Select multi-piece and production inquiries may be considered through Private Commissions.
Quantity, construction requirements, materials, timeline, pricing, and overall scope are reviewed before the work is accepted.
What does Tailoring & Fit include?
Tailoring & Fit covers alterations intended to refine proportion, balance, comfort, and overall fit.
Services may include hemming and length adjustments, waist, seat and rise adjustments, tapering, silhouette refinement, sleeve and body alterations, structural fit corrections, and select denim, trouser, and suit alterations.
What do Repairs & Restorations include?
Repairs & Restorations range from straightforward garment repair to intentionally visible restoration.
Work may include boro-inspired patchwork and visible mending, sashiko stitching and reinforcement, seam and fabric repair, patching, reconstruction of damaged areas, zipper and closure repair, hardware repair, lining repair or replacement, reinforcement, and finishing.
Can I bring in a garment I already own?
Yes. Select outside garments may be accepted for Tailoring & Fit, Repairs & Restorations, or reconstruction through Private Commissions.
The garment is reviewed before work is accepted to determine whether its material, condition, and construction are appropriate for the requested service.
Are there garments or materials you may decline?
Yes. Some garments may be declined when their material, condition, construction, or requested alteration makes the work impractical or likely to compromise the piece.
Fragile or heavily damaged garments are reviewed individually.
Are all Studio requests accepted?
No. Every request is reviewed individually.
Availability, construction, material, scope, timeline, and whether the work is appropriate for Patchwrk are considered before acceptance.
How is Studio pricing determined?
Studio pricing varies according to the garment, scope of work, materials, construction, fittings, and time required.
An estimate or project scope is provided before work begins.
Why do Private Commissions ask for an Estimated Investment?
The Estimated Investment field helps establish the intended scope of a Private Commission before the request is reviewed.
If you are unsure what range is appropriate, Not sure yet is available as an option.
Do Studio projects require a deposit?
Some Studio work, particularly Private Commissions and larger projects, may require a deposit before work begins.
Any required deposit will be included with the estimate and scope of work.
How long does Studio work take?
Typical timelines are:
Tailoring & Fit: approximately 1–2 weeks
Repairs & Restorations: approximately 1–3 weeks
Private Commissions: approximately 3–6 weeks or longer
Timing varies depending on complexity, materials, fittings, scope, and current workload. A more specific timeline is provided after the request is reviewed.
Do you offer rush service?
Limited rush availability may be offered for an additional fee.
Include your required date in the Studio inquiry so availability can be reviewed.
Can I mail a garment to the Studio?
Yes, when mail-in service is appropriate.
Shipping instructions will be provided after the request is reviewed and accepted. Do not send a garment before receiving confirmation.
Are Studio services refundable?
Private Commissions, Tailoring & Fit, and Repairs & Restorations are final once work begins.
If there is a concern with completed work, contact Patchwrk promptly so the garment and completed service can be reviewed.
What if I need an adjustment after tailoring?
Contact Patchwrk within 7 days of receiving the garment if you believe an adjustment related to the completed tailoring needs review.
Do repairs include a workmanship guarantee?
Yes. If a repair fails within 30 days due to Patchwrk workmanship, the garment can be reviewed and, when applicable, corrected without an additional labor charge.
This does not cover ordinary wear, new damage, misuse, improper care, or damage unrelated to the original repair.
FIT & CARE
Sizing, alterations, availability, and garment care.
How do Patchwrk pieces fit?
Fit varies by garment and design. Product pages include available sizing, measurements, and garment-specific fit information.
If you are unsure about sizing, contact Patchwrk before ordering.
Can a Patchwrk piece be altered?
Yes. When purchasing select Patchwrk pieces, alteration requests can be included in the order notes at checkout for adjustments such as hemming, waist changes, tapering, or other fit requests when available.
For more involved alterations, or for a garment you already own, submit a request through Tailoring & Fit.
Do you restock pieces?
Most one-of-one pieces are not reproduced exactly. Select designs, materials, or concepts may return in new variations.
Sign up for email updates or follow Patchwrk for release announcements.
Can I commission something similar to a sold piece?
Possibly. Original one-of-one pieces are not reproduced exactly, but a related garment may be developed through a Private Commission.
References to previous Patchwrk work are welcome when submitting an inquiry.
How should I care for my Patchwrk piece?
Always follow the care instructions provided with the garment.
Because materials and construction vary, care requirements may differ from piece to piece. Repaired, reconstructed, or tailored garments may also include service-specific care instructions.
RETURNS & EXCHANGES
Eligibility, exchanges, store credit, and order issues.
What is the return policy?
Patchwrk does not offer refunds.
Eligible ready-to-wear pieces may be returned for store credit or exchange within 7 days of delivery.
Items must be unworn, unwashed, unaltered, tagged, and returned in their original condition.
Sale items and Studio work are final.
What items are not eligible for return?
Sale items, Private Commissions, Tailoring & Fit services, and Repairs & Restorations are final.
Items that have been worn, washed, altered, damaged, or returned without their original tags or condition are also not eligible.
Do you offer exchanges?
Eligible ready-to-wear items may be exchanged within the 7-day return window, subject to availability.
Because many Patchwrk pieces are one-of-one, the same piece in another size may not exist. When a direct exchange is unavailable, eligible returns may be issued as store credit.
What if I receive the wrong or a damaged item?
Contact Patchwrk as soon as possible with your order information and clear photos so the issue can be reviewed.
Do not wear, wash, alter, or attempt to repair the item before contacting Patchwrk.
What happens if a returned item does not meet the return requirements?
Returns that are worn, altered, damaged, missing required tags, or otherwise not in eligible condition may be refused and returned to the customer.
SHIPPING & DELIVERY
Order preparation, tracking, and domestic and international delivery.
When will my order ship?
Please allow approximately 5–10 business days for order preparation unless otherwise stated on the product page.
Once shipped, domestic transit generally takes an additional 3–7 business days.
Studio timelines are separate and are confirmed during the service process.
Will I receive tracking information?
Yes. Tracking information is sent once the order has been prepared for carrier pickup.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes. Patchwrk ships internationally.
Shipping availability, rates, and delivery estimates vary by destination.
Are international duties and taxes included?
Depending on the destination and checkout method, duties and taxes may either be collected during checkout or become the customer’s responsibility upon delivery.
International customers are responsible for applicable import charges that are not collected at checkout.
What happens if my package is lost?
If tracking stops updating or a shipment appears lost in transit, contact the carrier and Patchwrk so the shipment can be reviewed.
A carrier investigation or claim may be required before a resolution can be determined.
What if tracking says delivered but I cannot find my package?
First check the delivery location, household members, building staff, neighbors, and any alternate areas where the carrier may have left the shipment.
If the package still cannot be located, file a delivery inquiry or claim with the carrier and contact Patchwrk with the claim information so the situation can be reviewed.
